µ-Posts (What is this?)

This is a stream/feed/river (or whatever you want to call it) of short posts that I write over time. If I feel like it I also repost to my Mastodon and/or Twitter account. Such posts are marked with Mastodon icon and/or Twitter icon, respectively.

Comments, likes and other responses to the posts can be shown after clicking on Permalink icon. Add your responses too!

Inkscape version 1.0 released! It's full of exciting improvements.

Why is there no static site generator based around shake, ginger, and dhall? I'm thinking of something like eleventy but with types. That is, like Hakyll but simpler and with logic mostly in templates.

Attempting to institutionalize backdoors into private encrypted communication should be unconstitutional. This happens over and over again. For example now in the Congress, see https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2020/04/15/signal-well-be-eaten-alive-by-earn-it-acts-anti-encryption-wolves/

Managed to export my Mastodon posts to my website, in order to keep my content under my control (#indieweb). All that was needed was a short #Haskell script. For details see https://nest.jakl.one/posts/2020-04-30-exporting-mastodon-posts/

Ethical phone with an ethical version of Android is a reality!

I can post both to Mastodon and Twitter from my blog via brid.gy! I'm still not sure how to turn my website into an ActivityPub endpoint but otherwise I'm really pleased with #indieweb!

Aral Balkan says:

If you teach development, the first thing you should be teaching… before HTML, CSS, JS, etc., is ETHICS.

Teach your students to avoid 3rd-party surveillance-based APIs/components. Teach them to de-centre themselves… to build tools owned and controlled by the people who use them.

Nice article about something I've been thinking about for some time. It suggests that in this era of quickly-spreading information with not so clear credibility, we can do better by combining Twitter for getting the reach and university-hosted blogs (to which the tweets would point) for providing trustworthiness of the said information.

Of course, also other institutions could be "trustworthiness providers" (e.g. the BBC) and host blogs of their people. One problem is that now in the eyes of many people universities and other traditional institutions have lost their reputation for some reason.
