Shout outs!
I am a big fan of open source and libre software. However, it seems to me that the developers of such software do not get nearly as much love as they deserve.
Since I am really grateful for all the hard work they do, I would like give a shout-out to maintainers of the following software that I absolutely rely on.
- NeoVim
- git
- Firefox
- Thunderbird
- NextCloud/ownCloud
- Darktable + digiKam + Inkscape + GIMP + ...
- XMonad + rofi
- LaTeX
And, there is tons of low level stuff which I cannot list at all. Let me list at least some of them:
- Glasgow Haskell Compiler
- Debian, Ubuntu and its clones, Fedora
- GNU Project (e.g. awk, htop, grep, ...)
I am also fanatic about open and standartised protocols. Let me also pay a compliment to the following (collections of) open standards and protocols:
- e-mail!
- Matrix protocol
- RSS (resp. Atom, JSON feed or h-entry microformat)
- IndieWeb standards
- ActivityPub protocol
- CSS and HTML :-)
Lastly, I also care about civil rights and the health of democracies in general. Here are some very respectable organisations that I highly respect because they are focused on such issues (often focusing on the digital aspect of our world):
- The Electronic Frontier Foundation
- Access Now
- The Free Software Foundation Europe (especially their Upcycling Android and Device Neutrality initiatives)
